Accessible Transit

The city of Medicine Hat supplied REDI with an accessible van as a pilot project for more available public transport for people with accessibility needs. At the time, Medicine Hat’s accessible transit system was only available from 6:54am to 10:45pm on weekdays and would try to provide the services on weekends. This didn’t offer a lot of flexibility for the people in need as they would often have to schedule a pick-up at least a day in advance. With REDI’s new accessible van, these services could be provided to those in need at all hours, which allowed for much more spontaneity in the affected people’s lives. REDI was responsible for the cost of fuel and finding a qualified driver, but the city covered the cost of maintenance.
